Mini means more, not less!

It’s with great excitement that we’ve built Toby Mini, a separate extension tailored to workflows that need their new tab screen free. While Toby on every new tab is better for the majority of users, we understand that offering choice is important. Other than the new tab functionality, Toby Mini is exactly the same as Toby! It will continue to be updated at the same time as Toby, getting all the same new features.

So why Toby Mini?

• 17 out of every 20 users use Toby on the new tab. That’s about 54,000 users! We received hundreds of emails about an annoying behavior: the extension URL sometimes showing up on every new Toby tab, which stole focus from the address bar. We want to make the user experience amazing, and that means you should be able to simply Cmd+T and start typing. Fixing that required the original Toby to become officially a new tab extension.

• However, equally important are the 3 out of every 20 Toby users who turned Toby off on their new tab screen. 80% of those continue to use Toby actively, and we love them too. They can now install Toby Mini and continue to enjoy lightning-fast tab management.

In the long run, we know that you’ll be much happier with this differentiation. Both Toby and Toby Mini can now provide a stable and consistent experience. It also gives us the foundation we need to build features that many of you are asking for, such as: sharing, notes, and more!

Our vision for Toby is to provide workspaces that are centered around productivity, how you work, and the people you collaborate with. It’s a simple concept that we’ve been exploring a lot during the start of the new year. Tab management is just the beginning of what we can offer, and we’re on our way to take it to the next level with teams on the top of our minds.
